This bronze vessel was used to hold wine for ritual sacrifices to the ancestors in Shang Dynasty China. There are many different shapes of vessel from this period, each with a specific use in the rituals of the Shang aristocracy. The bowl demonstrates the quality and sophistication of early Chinese technology and the importance of tombs as sources of evidence for ancient civilisations.
