This commemorative ring, containing a hidden portrait of Charles I, was probably worn by a supporter of the royalist cause in the years following the English Civil Wars. It offers an opportunity to learn more about the divisions in English society in the AD 1600s, about public reaction to the execution of the king and how royalist allegiance was maintained during the Commonwealth and Protectorate.
