This Commonplace Book is a fascinating record of the ideas and inventions of Erasmus Darwin (1731 – 1802), a Lichfield physician who was also an inventor, scientist and poet. He was a founding member of the Lunar Society and one of the key thinkers of the Enlightenment. Darwin’s Commonplace Book contains 160 pages of his handwritten notes and sketches, and is full of interest for students. The book provides great insight into Darwin’s thinking and the way he worked. It is a valuable source for helping students to understand the intellectual and scientific roots of Britain’s Industrial Revolution.
